Maple Books
Working titleBookkeeping for a Canadian small business in the manner of QuickBooks: invoices, bills, the bank feed, GST/HST and provincial tax, stock, projects and payroll, in English and French.
- Built for
- Canadian small and medium businesses that sell to customers in more than one province, keep some stock, and pay a few people every two weeks.
- Covers
- Invoicing, Bills, Banking, Sales tax, Inventory, Projects, Payroll, Statements
The problem
A small Canadian business charges HST in Ontario, GST and PST in British Columbia, GST and QST in Quebec and nothing on a jar of maple syrup, all on the same morning. The bank statement, the stock count and the payroll all have to land in the same books, and at the end of the quarter somebody has to know what goes on line 109.
Maple Books keeps the books as the work is done. An invoice takes the customer's province, a bill the vendor's, and each one posts itself to the ledger when it is approved. The bank feed is filed by rules and matched against what is already recorded, reconciled every month, and the profit and loss, the balance sheet and the GST/HST return are always up to date.

07
The books
